CITY OF NEWARK AND CLEAN COMMUNITIES COUNCIL TO HOST “SLAM DUNK THE JUNK” ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10, FROM 8 A.M. TO 1 P.M., STARTING AT DPW, 62 FRELINGHUYSEN AVENUE
Volunteers sought to remove litter and trash from pre-selected locations across city
Newark, NJ – August 30, 2024 – Mayor Ras J. Baraka announced today that the Department of Public Works’ Division of Sanitation is teaming up with the Clean Communities Council, Inc., to host the annual “Slam Dunk the Junk” on Thursday, October 10, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This yearly effort to remove litter and trash from locations across Newark will begin at the DPW’s trash and recycling facility, located at 62 Frelinghuysen Avenue. There, volunteer teams will be issued clean-up equipment, and be transported to pre-selected or chosen locations, at 9 a.m. to remove trash, litter, and debris until noon. Returning to the DPW facility, they will then be served lunch and enjoy an awards ceremony for Most Trash Collected and Most Unusual Items Found.
“All our successes in Newark hinge on our unity and our willingness to collaborate with each other,” said Mayor Baraka. “These citywide clean-ups are another opportunity to come together, enjoy each other’s company and put a happy effort into making our city reflect our vision of a healthful community. If you’ve never come out for a Slam Dunk, I invite you gather friends, family and colleagues to see first-hand how great it feels to do this work.”
Same day registration is available. Deadline to pre-register is Friday, October 4.
